No Reply...We All Might Be One

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 | 7:05 AM

Hello all my wonderful friends. I know what you're thinking...please, not another "No Reply" post. Sorry, but it is. You know it's one of my blogging missions to free the world of "No Replies" Lol !!

Some of you who are new to blogging may be asking what is "No Reply". Well, here it is in a nut shell.
  • you leave a comment on someone's blog
  • that blogger has her comments sent to her email inbox
  • she reads your comment in her email
  • she clicks the reply button to reply back to you, but...
  • in the email address section it says the dreaded...No Reply-comment instead of your email address
  • no blogging connection made

Over the years, I have had several posts showing how to change your "No Reply" status, but what does Blogger do...change their interface and dashboard.

Recently, I have had so many bloggers email me saying they have NEVER been a "No Reply" before, but since switching to the new dashboard, they are now.

It doesn't seem to be everyone, but I wanted to send out a little friendly reminder to check your profile settings.

Here is a picture tutorial on how to check, because it's in a different place on the new dashboard. Click picture to enlarge.

Go to your dashboard. In the upper right hand corner is your blog name and your profile picture or blog icon. CLICK the DOWN ARROW.

A pop up window will appear. Click BLOGGER PROFILE.

A new pop up window will appear. In the upper right corner, click EDIT PROFILE.

Then the old Privacy section will show up.

You MUST have a check mark in the box that says "Show my email address". You MUST click SAVE at the bottom when you're done.

That's it...easy!

PART 2 of this post...

I wanted to mention the new Google Plus. It's Google social networking version of Facebook. However, people are leaving comments with this platform and most seem to be "No Reply"

I am not on Google +, so I have no idea how to change that setting. If you are using Google + to leave comments, you may want to look into your profile setting for your email address.

 and Part 3...

The comment section on blogger now has a Reply button under each comment that's been left. Here's how it works.
  • someone leaves a comment
  • another reader wants to comment to that "specific" comment and clicks the reply button
  • she leaves her comment and it is posted just under the first, indented just a little.
here's an example (below) of one if you haven't seen it before.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the "reply" doesn't go to the person leaving the original comment. It's just posted there for future readers to see.

I've also seen this when the blog owner replies to the comment in that section. It's great when you leave the comment and it's there for all future readers to view, but I don't think it goes directly to the commentor herself.

The only way the commentor can see the replies is if she "subscribes" to that post. See that circled item in the picture below? If you click that, you are now subscribed to all the comments on THAT particular post and that post only.

Meaning, every comment that is left on that post will be sent to your email. Great if you want to read what everyone is chatting about on that particular topic.

When you click the SUBSCRIBE BY EMAIL button...

It will say..."follow-up comments will be sent to (then your blogger email address shows up)

If you don't want to follow that specific post any more, just go back and click UNSUBSCRIBE.

Hope this helps all bloggers new and old.

My next mission is to figure out the fix between Blogger and all the Typepad and Wordpress bloggers, because they always show up as No Reply.

The solution would be for Blogger to create a comment form like Typepad where you just put your email address and blog URL in to leave a comment. That way EVERYONE can leave a comment whether you have a blog or not and it would eliminate "no replies". The option to have an email address show up would be for the person to decide.

Blogger can you hear us? Can you please fix this comment issue?

Have a great day,
~Karen~

No Reply...No Email Address...Can't Respond Back

Written By Unknown on Monday, December 19, 2011 | 5:52 AM

Hello everyone...hope you had a wonderful weekend.

I thinks it that time again where I do my little shout out to all the wonderful bloggers and commenters who are "No Reply". I've noticed hundreds lately on my blog.

What is No Reply you ask? Well, if someone leaves a comment on any blog that comment goes to the email inbox of the recipient. When the blogger tries to respond back to the comment, the return email address says "No Reply" which equals "no email address, which equals "no reply back" :(

You may think your blog profile is set to show your email address, but it just takes 2 seconds to double check. I get so sad when I know people are blogging all over the world and there isn't an email address attached to their account to enjoy the communication back and forth between bloggers.

Go on...just check...for me!!

Go to your dashboard (I know sad me still has the old one, but shhh don't tell, I don't like the new one)

Click EDIT PROFILE

Under the first section called Privacy, make sure there is a check in the box that says...SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS.

Most important part...scroll down to the bottom and click the SAVE button!!

That's it...2 seconds and now you're open to the wonderful world of blogging.

If you don't want your regular email address to show, create a new email address just for blogging!!

Hope this helps to open up new conversations between bloggers and the commenters. Communication is the most important thing.

Have a great day,
~Karen~

You Might Be on My...No Reply List:(

Written By Unknown on Saturday, February 19, 2011 | 5:12 AM

Ok Ladlies...I had to do it. I feel so badly when someone leaves a comment and you are set to "No Reply". What is No Reply you ask? Most of you may already know, but many do not. No Reply means...every comment you leave on some one's blog goes to their email inbox, but a No Reply has NO email address attached to it, so we can't correspond back to you.

Some bloggers may want to be No Reply, because they may not have a blog or they just love to only leave comments. However, over the past 2 years, I would say 99.99% of the people I contact to tell them they are a No Reply, have no idea they were and want to change it.

If you have a blog and love open communication and emails back and forth between other bloggers, being a No Reply isn't the best feature.

In the past, I have always tried to search out the commenter through their profile and leave a comment on their blog to tell them they are a No Reply, but this is becoming too time consuming for me. This week alone I had over 40 No Replies. I feel so badly that they aren't receiving replies back...so here's my new solution!

A Weekly No Reply List: I know people won't mind their names being on a list, because they have already left a comment some where on my blog leaving their name and I know most will appreciate fixing the problem...I hope...if you don't appreciate it, please don't tell me or I'll cry, LOL!! I'm really only trying to help and this seems to be the best solution for all.

To change a "No Reply" status is quick and easy. Click here for 2 tutorials I've done on this in the past

So here it is...dun, dun, dun (can you hear the low drum roll?)

How To Change A No Reply...

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 | 9:59 AM

Just a quick answer for Lou Fay...thanks so much for the kind words about my blog, but I can't reply to your email, because yours is set to "no reply". If you want to receive emails back from other bloggers, you need to
  • go into your dashboard
  • click edit profile
  • then put a check in the box that says "show my email address" (it only shows up when someone is trying to answer you from their email, so they can respond back.
  • the last and most important step is to go to the bottom of that page and click SAVE.

Hope this helps...if not, here's a picture for your question. I glue silk flowers to the tops of golf tees. The tees then keep the matching bobbin together with the spool of thread.

Take care,
~Karen~

Hello To All "No Replies"...

Written By Unknown on Friday, September 25, 2009 | 4:39 AM

This is a quick tutorial for all my wonderful commenters who may have a blogging account, but there isn't an email address attached for replies.

One such blogger is SewLindAnn...First off I want to thank you for all your wonderful comments you have left on my blog...I really appreciate it. I am writing you here, hoping you will read this. You have left me comments and a question about the "I Spy Swap", but I can't reply back. Your blogger profile is set to "No Reply", which means there is no email communication allowed back to you.

I have felt so badly each time you (or anyone who has a "No Reply") have left a message. I really do try to answer all the questions that come in and I love your idea about the vintage suit case and my trash Tool Time!!!
space
Here's a quick way for anyone to check to see if you can receive email back through your blog comments.

  • first, go to your blogger dashboard
  • near your picture or logo on the left, click "Edit Profile"
  • go to the first section labeled "Privacy"
  • in this section, the third line down should say "Show Email Address"
  • make sure there IS a Check Mark in the "Show Email Address"
  • if you don't have an email address listed, you can fill it in in the "Identity" section
  • The MOST IMPORTANT part when you finish, is to go to the bottom of the page and click "Save Profile" on the bottom left side. If you do not click save it won't work.
That should do it. If you want to leave me a comment on this post, I will check to see if everything is ok. If it doesn't work, I'll meet you back here in another post!!
If anyone out there isn't receiving emails back from comments they leave, just take a peek at your "Edit Profile" section just to make sure.
Have a great day everyone and hope to reply back to you soon,
~Karen~
